In September this year, a new book about the connection between Ukraine and the dynasty of the Mozarts «Mozart the son. The life of Franz Xaver in the travel diary and letters» will be published by «Vydavnytstvo Staroho Leva» (Old Lion Publishing House). This was reported by the book’s compiler and initiator, a kapellmeister Oksana Lyniv.

There will be the last and most relevant research of Roksolana Gavaliuk and scientific initiative Mozartiana Galizia, placed on more than 500 pages of the book. For the first time in the history, according to Lyniv, last found letters of Mozart’s son, published and given exclusively for the research by the International organisation Mozarteum Salzburg were translated. This way, 106 letters are now gathered in the book, half of them from Lviv.

«For the first time, a fascinating and simultaneously intimate «Travel Diary» by Franz Xaver was translated into Ukrainian. Also, I wrote introductions to each section in a manner accessible to a wide range of readers to bring the modern audience to our hero as close as possible. All sections are supplemented by the memories of contemporaries and eyewitnesses», – she says.

The team that worked on the book:

  • compiler, initiator, researcher – Oksana Liniv
  • scientific editor and researcher – Roksolana Gavalyuk,
  • consultations and research – Anya Morgenstern, Armin Brintzig, Ulrich Leissinger, Gabriele Ramsauer (Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg)
  • translations by Olha Sydor and Khrystyna Nazarkevych.

The pre-presentation of the book will occur within the framework of the LvivMozArt festival, which will take place on August 26-29 in Lviv. The full program is here.

Let us recall that this year, on July 26, 230 years have passed since the birth of the outstanding Austrian composer, the youngest son of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Franz Xaver. The fact that he lived in the Lviv region most of his life and teached music in noble families surprises both ordinary Ukrainians and foreign musicians. During the festival LvivMozArt, Lviv City Council is planning to install a sculpture of Franz Xaver Mozart on Yevhena Malaniuka square.
