Pavlo Lacy, a Ukrainian who graduated from the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy in Lviv, became the best foreign student at the British Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. This was reported at the British Embassy in Ukraine.

Pavlo Lacy received a special award–the International Sword – from Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, daughter of Queen Elizabeth II. Every year, the Queen or her representative gives this prize to the foreign cadet who has shown the best results in training.

It should be noted that 20-year-old Pavlo is a native of the Sumy region in the north of Ukraine, bordering Russia.

General Sir Mark Carlton-Smith, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, also presented Pavlo with a medal.

It should be noted that last year, the best foreign graduate of the Royal Military Academy of the British Army also was a Ukrainian – a cadet of the Military Academy in Odesa: Anton Sovenko.

For the third year in a row, Ukrainians are becoming the best students of the Royal Academy, in particular two of them – graduates of the National Army Academy in Lviv.

In 2019, Artem Baranenko, a cadet of the Lviv’s National Army Academy, received the same honor. At that time, 33 foreign officers graduated from the Academy, representing the armed forces of 22 countries – from Afghanistan, Albania, and Azerbaijan to Ukraine and the United States.

Alumni of Sandhurst include: Sir Winston Churchill; Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge; Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex; King Hussein of Jordan; and other kings, princes, and sheikhs from the world over, as well as musicians, actors, writers, and politicians.
