On October 1, the international theatrical festival «Zolotyi Lev» (Golden Lion) started in Lviv, turning the city into a big theatrical scene.

The beginnings of the festival «Zolotyi Lev» date back to 1989. It was the period of Perestroika in the Soviet Union, which particularly marked the easing of state control over the cultural sphere. As a result, new forms of theatrical initiatives – troupes, schools and concepts – started emerging in Ukraine.
«Zolotyi Lev» received its name in 1992 and was formed at that time as a full-fledged Ukrainian festival of the theatrical experiment.
Currently, the festival is a member of the European theatrical forum IETM and the association of international festivals IFEA.
