Oleksandr Kozak, a student of the Lviv Lyceum of Physics and Mathematics, won a gold medal at the International Olympiad in Astrophysics and Astronomy, organized by Colombia. This was reported in the Department of Education and Science Lviv Regional State Administration.
The Olympics took place in late November. In total, the Ukrainian team won 9 medals, but initially, they reported only one «gold» medal, won by Svyatoslav Lushney. However, the other day, the organizing committee of the International Olympiad found a mistake and listed all the points: the Ukrainian team rightfully won another gold medal.

«It turned out that our silver winner Oleksandr Kozak still has a gold medal. Last year, Oleksandr graduated from the Lviv Physics Lyceum. Oleksandr Kozak has the best result among all Ukrainians. Officially, he has gold,» – Lyceum’s teacher Mykola Petruniv said.

We would like to add that during the Olympiad, the participants had to solve 15 problems of the theoretical round, 2 volumetric problems of the practical round related to data analysis, and the tasks of the observation round, which was held this year in the program for solar observations and virtual planetarium.
The International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) is an annual competition in astronomy and astrophysics for children under 18. It took place in a mixed format through quarantine. This year, the Ukrainian team gathered in Kyiv at the laboratory of the Small Academy of Sciences (department of the National Academy of Science in Ukraine). Next year’s Olympics will take place in Ukraine around mid-August, but the exact date is not yet known.
We will also add that in total, Ukrainian students won 9 medals – 2 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze, in particular, six winners are lyceum students from the Lviv Physical and Mathematical Lyceum. Svyatoslav Lushney (gold), Oleksandr Kozak (gold), Severin Shikula (silver), Iryna Hontsovska (bronze), Ivan Simotyuk (bronze), Nazar Thir (bronze) won.
