In Mariupol, a unit of the Mykolayiv 36th Separate Brigade of Marines named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Belinskyi was able to break out of the encirclement and join the Azov Regiment after conducting a special operation on April 12. This was reported on the Facebook page of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and approved by today’s statement of Advisor to the President’s Office Oleksii Arestovych.
«In Mariupol, a unit of the 36th separate brigade of marines named after Rear Admiral Belinskyi was able to get out of the enemy’s encirclement and join the «Azov» Regiment as a result of a clearly planned special operation,» – the statement said.
Yesterday, April 12, it was first announced by the media Ukrayinska Pravda, citing a comment from one of the brigade’s officers. According to the military, despite the great complexity, the operation was carried out successfully.
«I can’t tell you the details, but I can say that we have now joined the Azov Regiment. Several hundred Marines managed to escape, including the wounded,» – a brigade officer said.
It will be recalled that Mariupol has been blocked by the Russian occupiers since March 1. A humanitarian catastrophe and genocide continue in the city. It is currently not possible to unblock the city, and it is also difficult to provide the necessary assistance to the fighters.
On April 11, fighters of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade said that this day could be the last battle for the defenders of Mariupol, and Ukrainian politicians had not been in touch for two weeks. After that, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi assured that the command maintains contact with the fighters in Mariupol, and the details of the defense operation should not be the subject of public discussion.
On the evening of April 11, the Russian occupiers used an unknown poisonous substance against Ukrainian soldiers and civilians in Mariupol, which they dropped from a drone.
Azov leader Andrii Biletskyi said that three fighters of the Azov Regiment were injured as a result of the use of chemical weapons against Ukrainians.
