On 15 February, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed in Lviv to feature the development of railway infrastructure on the territory of the Rava-Ruska community. In particular, it is about the restoration of the Eurorail between Rava-Ruska and the State Border (Hrebenne). This was reported in the press service of the Lviv regional state administration (LODA).

The signatories were four parties – LODA, Rava-Ruska City Council, Dobrosyn-Magerivska Village Council and JSC «Ukrzaliznytsia». The technical task envisages an overhaul of the European-style track 8 km long, as well as reconstruction of the railway station in Rava-Ruska with the possibility of customs control. Currently, work is underway to prepare design and estimate documentation at the expense of the community and the region, which will cost UAH 4 million. As added in LODA, 200 billion hryvnias will be allocated from the state budget for the project for 6 years.

In general, the project of restoring the Eurorail to the Polish border should become part of the «Big Construction» program, initiated by the president’s party «Servant of the People» in the direction of upgrading Ukrzaliznytsia. It is planned to prepare submittals this year. The customer of the works is the Rava-Ruska City Council.

According to the project, UAH 1 million should be directed to the railway station, another UAH 3 million – to the production of submittals for the reparation of the railway connection from the State Border to Rava-Ruska.

We will add that the route through the border crossing Hrebenne – Rava-Ruska is the shortest and most convenient railway connection (339 km) between Warsaw and Lviv.

Eurorail has not been operating since 2005. The cost of the project will be approximately 100 million hryvnias. For its modernisation, it will be necessary to repair the passenger building, the platform for about UAH 14.7 million, as well as tracks, crossings, bridges for a total of UAH 31 million. The total expected cost of capital investments is up to UAH 83 million.

By 2025, Ukraine plans to complete the European integration of the Ukrainian railway network. It is known that the Ministry of Infrastructure in 2021 planned to begin work on a project to build a railway network of European format to launch the latest trains that can run at speeds above 250 km/h.

In addition, in December last year, a new direction of the program «Big Construction» was announced in Ukraine. It concerns the renewal of Ukrzaliznytsia. It is planned that this process will last 6 years and will attract about 200 billion hryvnias for its investment.
