In the Kyiv region, there are 425 special storage facilities for the population, prepared for the case of a nuclear threat. They are planned to be equipped with radio receivers by November 15, the head of Kyiv regional military administration Oleksii Kuleba told hromadske.
«The last 8 months have taught us that anything can happen. As an official, I am preparing for the worst scenario, but I hope that everything will be fine,» – he said.
Oleksii Kuleba added that, unfortunately, the issue of nuclear safety has not been raised in Ukraine for the past 30 years. However, everything has changed over the past 5 months. The official emphasizes that he requires the people he works with not to approach it formally.

425 special shelters are located underground, they have two entrances and exits, as well as a ventilation system. In total, there are about a thousand shelters in the region.
«It is the easiest with the basement floor. There, windows face the street, but only by half. They are not suitable for protection against the radiation threat,» – he emphasized.
In the event of a nuclear attack, Oleksii Kuleba says, the first thing a person should do is go to shelter. The second step is to communicate, in order to define the next steps. However, if a nuclear attack happens, there will most likely be no communication.
«The only thing that will work is the radio. Therefore, portable radios with batteries should be equipped everywhere so that the signal can be received. Because information will be the most important thing,» – he noted.
The head of the regional military administration says that these 425 facilities are not yet equipped with radio receivers, but the authorities want to do this urgently. It is planned to be completed by November 15.
We will remind you that Ukrainian journalist and visionary, Vitaliy Portnikov, commented on the consequences that might happen if Russia uses its tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine. According to him, each country will want its own bomb, and the very idea of the UN Security Council will lose its sense.
