Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi said that his city is ready to accept those who will seek security and asylum. However, he acknowledged that Lviv could not accommodate the hundreds of thousands who would be displaced in the event of a full-scale Russian attack. He said this for a BuzzFeed News article about how the West of Ukraine is preparing for the influx of refugees in the event of a Russian invasion.
«We don’t have free space and residences available for everyone, but my family would be ready to accept another family. If every family in Lviv receives another family, it will be a great help.» – he said.
Sadovyi added that the Russian threat is at the «red level». He called on Lviv hospitals to be ready to receive the wounded in the event of an invasion and also asked residents to join the territorial defence forces.
«You’d have to be stupid not to understand the danger we face. If you have 120,000 Russian troops standing at your door, what does it mean? Are they engaged in charity work? No. They want to take Ukraine.» – he said.
We will add that Ukrainian servicemen started training to use the latest NLAW anti-tank missile systems at the 184th Training Centre of the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachny in Lviv. Read the news here.
