The Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) will return to the bill which proposes to cancel the switch to daylight saving time in the winter. The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and the bill’s author Ruslan Stefanchuk announced it, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
«We switched to summer time, and I think it makes no sense to vote for [the bill] in the summer. The ideology that had been put in this bill was to keep the usual time for Ukraine +2 [hours GMT], which means winter time. Therefore, I think that after Ukraine switches to winter time, the issue will have to be raised again», – Stefanchuk said at a briefing on Monday, explaining why the bill was not voted on in the second reading.
He added that the European Union also supports abolishing the transition to summer time. However, according to Stefanchuk, the main factor in favour of the bill is the biological rhythms of Ukrainian citizens.
Let us recall that in October last year, the bill on cancellation of transition to summer time and winter time was registered in the parliament. It provides for the consolidation of only Kyiv time in Ukraine and the rejection of seasonal clocks transfer. In Ukraine, the clock has been switched to winter and summer time for almost 40 years. In autumn, the clocks are traditionally transferred on the last Sunday of October. In 2021, Ukrainians will switch to winter time--one hour back–on the morning of October 31, at 4 o’clock in the morning.
