Ukraine can count on Poland’s help in defending its territories and independence, because «Poles understand well what the Soviet yoke is.» This was stated by the Marshal of the Polish Senate Tomasz Grodzki, who spoke in Ukrainian 18 February in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s Parliament.

According to the Polish senator, he has no roots in Ukraine and was born in western Poland. But many of his friends have Ukrainian pedigree. Grodzki stressed that even if he had no ties with Ukraine, still, being a Pole, he would not hesitate to come here today and support Ukrainians.

There is a saying: «Friends are known in trouble.» That is why we came here with such a wide delegation. Please note that there are representatives of various political forces here, who often have sharp political disputes in Poland. However, we are completely united in the issue of solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people,» – the Polish senator said.

He was accompanied by vice-marshals and famous senators of the Polish Parliament. Poles understand what it means when people are enslaved in the Soviet yoke from which they were liberated 30 years ago, Tomasz Grodzki added. The citizens of the neighbouring state understand what it means to be deprived of sovereignty, and in this sense, they express unanimous support for Ukrainians.

«I want to assure you: with all my heart, on my own behalf, on behalf of the entire delegation and on behalf of the entire Polish people, that we will do everything in the power of the senators of the Upper House of the Polish Parliament to ensure that no one dares to violate the territorial integrity and the right of the Ukrainian people to self-determination. You can count on us as trusted friends,» – the Marshal of the Polish Senate said.

Tomasz Grodzki summed up the speech with the words «Ukraine has not died [lyrics from the Ukrainian anthem]! Long live peace and friendship between our peoples! Long live free Ukraine.»

It should be added that the Marshal of the Polish Senate is the third person, according to the order of seniority in the Polish government, after the President and the Marshal of the Sejm.
