Luhansk Region
Over the past day, the Russians shelled Novoselivske, Andriivka, Makiivka, Kreminna, Dibrova, Terny, and Yampolivka in the Luhansk region. At the same time, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled the attacks of the occupiers in the area of Bilohorivka. Near Kreminna and Svatove, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are moving forward.
Donetsk Region
On the Bakhmut direction, Vyimka, Bilohorivka, Soledar, Krasna Hora, Paraskoviivka, Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, Kurdyumivka, New York and Vesele in Donetsk region, and in total more than 15 settlements, were hit by enemy fire.
On the Avdiivka direction, Avdiivka, Vodyane, Pervomaiske, Georgiivka, Mariinka and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region came under enemy fire. In the direction of Novopavlivka, Vuhledar, Mykilski Dachi and Velyka Novosilka of the Donetsk region were shelled.
At night, the Russian occupiers hit the Kramatorsk industrial zone of the Donetsk region with rockets twice. As a result of the enemy attack, no one was injured.
On January 16, the Russians killed two civilians of Donetsk region: in Bakhmut and Severny. Another person in the region was injured.
Kharkiv Region
Yesterday, the enemy continued to terrorize the civilian population of the front-line settlements of Kupiansk, Chuhuiv and Kharkiv districts of the region.
In Kupiansk, 2 five-story apartment buildings and 7 private households were damaged by shelling. A 41-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman were injured. In Vovchansk, Chuhuiv district, shelling damaged the building of the Central District Hospital, and damaged 7 private houses.
In the village of Bilyi Kolodyaz of the Vovchansk community, 3 private houses and a civil industry facility were damaged.
Dnipropetrovsk Region
Nikopol did not have a quiet night. The Russians hit the area three times with heavy artillery. Three communities – Pokrovsk, Nikopol and Chervonohryhorivka – came under fire. The enemy directed more than 20 shells there. People were not injured. The consequences of the attack are being investigated.
Zaporizhzhia Region
At night, the Russian occupiers shelled the private sector in the Zaporizhzhia region. A report was received about the destruction of 64 objects of civil infrastructure. In particular, that night the enemy carried out artillery shelling of the Bilenkivsk community. Three houses, outbuildings and cars were damaged as a result of 120 mm projectiles hitting the sector of private residential buildings. Fortunately, all people remained unharmed.
Mykolayiv Region
Yesterday, January 16, at 10:53 p.m., the enemy fired artillery at the settlement of the Ochakiv community. As a result, one person died. The objects of social infrastructure and residential buildings were damaged.
In Mykolayiv, Pervomaiske, Voznesensk and Bashtan districts, the day and night passed relatively calmly.
Kherson Region
According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Russian invaders attacked the Kherson region 102 times a day. Firearms from artillery, MLRS, mortars, tanks and UAVs. Kherson was shelled 36 times by the Russians – residential quarters of the city once again came under the fire of the occupiers. Enemy shells hit the boarding school building, hospital and residential buildings.
Yesterday, one person died due to Russian shelling, two residents of the Kherson region were injured of varying degrees of severity.

In Germany, they said that after the appointment of a new head of the Ministry of Defense, the issue of sending tanks to Ukraine will become «the first item on the new minister’s agenda.»
Germany, which has come under great pressure from the West, said that the issue of tanks for Ukraine will be the first item on the agenda of the country’s new defense minister. In this way, Kyiv became one step closer to receiving modern combat tanks that could change the course of the war against Russia, Reuters writes.
German-made Leopard battle tanks are seen by many countries as the only plausible option available in sufficient numbers for transfer to Ukraine. But they cannot be given to Kyiv without the permission of Berlin, which is still resisting.
After Western allies met at a US airbase in Germany to discuss military support for Ukraine, it became clear that Berlin was under intense pressure over its objections. The publication notes that the transfer of tanks to Ukraine would be one of the most significant changes in Western aid today.
Currently, «the decision is on the table» of the new German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who was appointed on January 17 to replace Christine Lambrecht who had resigned.
Before the announcement of the new minister in Germany, it was noted that after the appointment, the first issue that the new minister will need to solve will be the topic of tanks for Ukraine. Pistorius himself did not mention weapons for Ukraine in his first comments in office.
It should be noted that Germany is still very cautious about transferring weapons to Ukraine, which can be considered as an escalation. But allies increasingly say the worry is misplaced, as Russia shows no signs of ending this war.
