In Lviv, the construction of the first container town for the temporary stay of Ukrainians who are forced to evacuate from hot spots began. The first mobile houses were installed on April 7, Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi announced.

Currently, 70 housing containers will be installed here, capable of accommodating more than 350 people. 2-4 people can live in one house. Inside, there is furniture, light, and heat. Bathrooms and a dining room will be located in this mobile town.

«We are starting to build temporary housing for the refugees. In the morning, 3,000 people from Slovyansk and Kramatorsk came to Lviv, so there will be another wave. Many students come from the east, so we chose this location for them in one of the city’s parks, next to UCU [Ukrainian Catholic University],» – the mayor said.

In total, the city will build three such towns with 300 houses. The containers came from Poland as a gift from the Polish government.

«Water, sewage, showers, toilets, containers for cooking – by the end of the week, we will build a town to provide all the necessary conditions. But it will be a temporary residence until the end of the summer. Later, we plan to equip a sports and recreational playground here,» – the mayor said.

He noted that out of 200,000 refugees in Lviv, according to forecasts, 50,000 will continue staying, so for them, 1 million square metres of housing is planned.

The mayor also announced the construction of two-story wooden cottages with more comfortable conditions. Wooden houses will be built at the expense of the Red Cross, UNICEF and the United Nations. The plots for houses will be not far from the city, so that residents have a better connection to Lviv.

«Wooden hostel will be for 160 people. There will be places for women in need, there will be adapted opportunities for expectant mothers... If we talk about mothers, there will be a location in the area of Hlynianskyi Trakt for them. There is a calmer area, a park is planned in the future, it is a gentle place close to the centre,» – Andrii Sadovyi commented.
