Former US presidential special envoy Keith Kellogg considers Russian oil refineries legitimate military targets and supports the continuation of Ukrainian strikes on Russia's oil and gas infrastructure. In his view, this should make Moscow feel the price of the war and weaken Russia's war economy. Kellogg made this statement during a discussion at the Warsaw Security Forum, reports Ukrinform.
Answering a question about what he would advise Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Kellogg urged that Russian oil refineries be knocked out of service.
The retired American lieutenant general noted that Russia is attacking schools and civilians, while Ukraine, in his words, is striking military targets.
He stressed that among the targets Russia should pay for is its oil and gas industry. In Kellogg's view, pressure on these sectors can weaken Moscow's economic capacity to continue the war.
Kellogg also advocated for further military, financial and economic support for Ukraine.
Recall that earlier, US President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries amid a rapid rise in global diesel prices.
On October 10, Donald Trump said that Ukraine needs a new president who can negotiate a deal with Russia. He also claimed that Volodymyr Zelensky had allegedly had many opportunities to end the war but did not take them.
The statements were made amid a dispute between Kyiv and Washington over Ukraine's strikes on Russian energy infrastructure and US agreements with Russia on the supply of diesel fuel.
Also, American billionaire Elon Musk supported President Donald Trump's statements that Ukraine allegedly needs a new leader instead of Volodymyr Zelensky.
