In the U.S. midterm congressional elections, held on November 3, the Democratic Party won control of the Senate and came close to securing a majority in the House of Representatives. This could significantly alter the political balance in the country and complicate the implementation of President Donald Trump's agenda.
This is reported by Associated Press.
According to the agency, Democrats won at least six Senate seats previously controlled by Republicans. In particular, they managed to win in Texas, Kansas, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Ohio. As a result, the party regained a majority in the upper chamber of Congress.
Among the notable results is the victory of Democrat James Talarico in Texas, where Democrats had not won a Senate seat since 1988. Democrat Adam Hamilton also won in Kansas, a state that had not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1932.
In the House of Representatives, Democrats are also showing strong results. According to AP, they have already won in more than a dozen districts previously represented by Republicans. Vote counting is ongoing, so the final distribution of seats has not yet been determined. At the same time, Democrats have come close to securing the 218 seats needed to control the lower chamber.

The election results were a serious blow to the Republican Party and the Trump administration. Analysts cite Americans' dissatisfaction with the economic situation, high prices, and the policies of the current administration as the main reasons for support for Democrats.
Trump himself stated after the first results were announced:
The transfer of the Senate under Democratic control will give them the ability to influence the passage of legislation, as well as block confirmations of nominees for key administration positions and the federal judiciary. If Democrats also win a majority in the House of Representatives, they will be able to strengthen oversight of the president's and his team's actions.
Official certification of the election results will take place after the vote count in the states is completed.
By the way, the overall election results will be known closer to lunchtime Kyiv time.
