The governor of the American state of South Carolina, Henry McMaster, has appointed Darlene Graham Norton as interim US Senator to replace her late brother, Lindsey Graham. She will serve until the end of his senatorial term in January 2027. BBC reports this.
The official appointment took place on July 13. Introducing the new senator, McMaster called her Lindsey Graham's "beloved younger sister" who will "now complete his work."

As BBC notes, before the appointment, US President Donald Trump and other high-ranking officials urged Darlene Graham Norton to take the position in honor of her brother's memory.
According to the publication, Lindsey Graham was very close to his sister. After their parents' death, he officially adopted Darlene and became her legal guardian.
Darlene Graham Norton will represent South Carolina in the US Senate until the end of Lindsey Graham's term, which was set to last until January 2027.
