Iran accused Ukraine of attacking a merchant ship in the Caspian Sea, which, according to Tehran, resulted in one sailor killed and another injured. At the same time, Kyiv states that the targets were supply routes for military cargo related to Russia and Iran. This is reported by BBC.

According to Iranian media, following the incident, the Ukrainian diplomatic representative was summoned to the ministry. Tehran stated that they consider the strike an act of aggression and promised to protect their national interests.

The IRNA agency reported that during this meeting, Iran emphasized: "The Islamic Republic will resolutely defend its security and national interests and will not leave attacks on the lives and property of its citizens unanswered."

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also called on the UN Security Council, the European Union, and the international community to respond to the event.

The Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel, Yevhen Korneychuk, stated that the ship was carrying components for drones and missiles intended for Russia. According to him, Ukraine considers such transportation to be legitimate military targets, and Iran's claims about the civilian nature of the cargo are untrue.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, stated that there is currently no official information regarding Iran's intentions to strike Ukraine. He wrote about this on social media.

In addition, Zelensky stated that Russia is providing Iran with satellite data on American military objects in the Middle East. According to him, Ukrainian intelligence has recorded active satellite imagery of the territories of the Persian Gulf countries, and the obtained materials subsequently end up in Iran for strike adjustments.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that Russia and China assured him of no intentions to supply weapons to Iran. Thus, Washington's and Kyiv's assessments of Moscow's role in supporting Tehran differ.

Experts believe that a direct military response from Iran to Ukraine is unlikely due to the absence of a common border and Tehran's limited capabilities. Instead, diplomatic pressure, information campaigns, and cyberattacks through Iran-controlled groups remain possible. At the same time, according to analysts, this incident could strengthen Ukraine's arguments with Western partners regarding Russian-Iranian military cooperation.
