The statement notes that Pope Leo XIV wishes to "emphasize the moral responsibility of those called to act in the political sphere, and calls on all humanity to defend human dignity and contribute to building peace, starting with the 'disarmament of technology'".
The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development quotes the encyclical Magnifica humanitas, in which the Pope reminds that "there is no algorithm that can make war morally acceptable" (198).
He also warns about the risks associated with entrusting military decisions to artificial intelligence. Pope Leo XIV, as stated in the declaration, makes a sincere appeal to the international community to promote the conclusion of common agreements that emphasize the key role of human responsibility and humanitarian principles in situations concerning people's lives and the peaceful coexistence of peoples.
Recall that Pope Leo XIV dedicated his prayer intention for August to the evangelization of cities.
