French President Emmanuel Macron has instructed Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to review the legislation to propose a new, "legally sound" version by spring 2027. This is according to reported BFMTV.

Previously, on August 14, France's Constitutional Council blocked the ban on social media use for children under 15, which was passed by both houses of the French parliament last month.

This was one of the flagship initiatives of Emmanuel Macron's second term. However, in its decision, the Council declared it unconstitutional due to a "disproportionate violation of freedom of expression."

The bill stipulated that children under 15 would not be allowed to create new social media accounts. A complete ban on existing profiles was set to take effect in January.

This measure would have affected TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, X, as well as some YouTube features, messengers, and online games. The Council also deemed the exceptions provided by the law too "limited."
