The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials to return to international competitions. The corresponding decision was made by the organization's Executive Committee published in an official press release.

The federation explained that the review of sanctions is related to the decisions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding athletes and teams from Russia and Belarus. FIBA noted that it is coordinating its position with the IOC.

At the same time, the admission of Russian and Belarusian national teams currently remains unresolved.

FIBA stated that it will cooperate with the IOC, the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), and other international federations of team Olympic sports. The goal is to resolve logistical and security issues in the event of a possible return of Russian and Belarusian national teams to international competitions.

Specifically, this concerns qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, as well as international tournaments among national teams and clubs of all age categories in basketball and 3x3 basketball.

Specific decisions regarding the possible admission of Russian and Belarusian teams, as well as their requirements, particularly regarding the anti-doping program, are planned to be made by FIBA at a Central Board meeting in December 2026.

Recall, earlier the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced the return of Russia to the Nations League, starting next season.
