A meeting of representatives of seven NATO countries will take place in Poland in the coming weeks, dedicated to the future of the Alliance and the division of responsibility for its security. The United States initiated the negotiations. This is reported by "European Pravda" citing Polsat News and Polish government sources.
Representatives of the leadership of the ministries of defense were invited to the meeting of Germany, Norway, Sweden, the US, Finland, the Netherlands, and Poland. This format is called the "Bergen Group."
The main topic of negotiations is expected to be the future of NATO and the further division of responsibility for the security of the Alliance. The meeting will be held at a level similar to previous negotiations in this format. At that time, deputy defense ministers and chiefs of staff, among others, participated.

This time, deputy ministers responsible for defense policy are to play the main role. The meeting will be coordinated by the Deputy Head of the Pentagon for the US Elbridge Colby.
At the same time, the composition of the group has caused discussion. The meeting did not invite, for example, Great Britain, France, and the Baltic states. According to media reports, the current format may be a platform for preparing proposals that will later be submitted for discussion by all NATO members.
Polish MEP Adam Bielan stated that there are many different formats of meetings within NATO. According to him, the Alliance is currently often being tested by Russia.
Politico previously reported on the planned meeting. The publication wrote that some European NATO countries that spend significant amounts on defense and are US allies were not invited to the Pentagon-led negotiations on the future of the Alliance.
At the same time, the US Department of Defense continues to prepare a review of the US military presence in Europe. It is expected to be ready by November 6.
