Before 29 January, Ukrainian intelligence took secret documents–confidential files and equipment–out of Kyiv due to a possible Russian military invasion of Ukraine. This was reported, in particular, by The Washington Post, citing its sources in the government of Ukraine.

In addition, the special services have gathered military supplies and conducted tactical exercises with the use of new weapons against the background of a possible new threat from Russia.

«Ukrainian intelligence has moved confidential files and equipment from its headquarters in the capital to safe places in the west of the country,» a statement in the American publication said.

Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi, when asked about the transportation of documents to Western Ukraine, said that it is always wise to always have a plan «B» and plan «C» for any government agency.

«I told [Arseniy] Yatsenyuk back in 2014 when he started working as head of government, that all important documents should be duplicated and stored in Western Ukraine because it is safer in terms of possible aggression and destruction,» he said.

Yatsenyuk was the first prime minister of Ukraine after the Euromaidan Revolution, from 2014 until 2016.
