The date and place of the start of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces: the New York Times described Ukraine’s plans

US officials do not expect a sharp change in dynamics in favor of Ukraine, and military officials do not rule out that the Armed Forces will be able to surprise again.

Ukraine is preparing a counteroffensive for May, which will take place in the south along the coastline on the Sea of Azov.

This is reported by The New York Times with reference to American officials.

The article notes that without a decisive victory for Ukraine, its support from the West may weaken. Ukrainian authorities may find themselves under pressure from partners who may demand the start of serious negotiations with Russia to end or freeze the war.

«American and NATO allies have supplied Ukraine with a large amount of artillery and ammunition for the upcoming battle, and now officials say they hope that these supplies will last for a long time,» the authors of the article note.

They drew attention to how the situation has changed compared to the events of two months ago, when weapons were just arriving in Ukraine and American officials were worried that supplies might run out.

The publication also referred to secret US documents and clarified that 12 Ukrainian combat brigades, consisting of about 4,000 soldiers each, should be prepared by the end of April. The United States and NATO allies train and equip nine of these brigades.

The article also states that Ukraine is not sharing details of its operational plan with US officials, but the counteroffensive will most likely take place in the south. In particular, we are talking about the territory along the Ukrainian coastline on the Sea of Azov.

The authors of the material inform that, according to American officials, the Ukrainian counteroffensive is unlikely to lead to a sharp change in dynamics in favor of Kyiv. At the same time, military officials from the USA do not rule out that the Ukrainian army will be able to surprise them again.

Currently, Ukrainian forces are armed with European tanks, American armored personnel carriers and have new units trained and equipped by Americans and NATO forces.
