As the Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko noted during the presentation of the project, rehabilitation centers and departments in the country are operating, but this is not enough. Some of the victims of the war are being sent abroad.

«Ukraine has already sent 395 citizens abroad, 80 are in the process of sending. In total, the Ministry of Health has 520 requests for evacuation abroad. And these are not final figures, there can be more of these people every time,» – Viktor Lyashko says.

According to him, there are 2,236 rehabilitation specialists in Ukraine, but the need is currently 4,554 specialists. Approximately the same situation with rehabilitation beds. There are currently more than 5,000 of them, but at least 10,000 are needed.

«On the 104th day of the full-scale war, we lack about 4,000 rehabilitation specialists due to certain specifics, we also lack about 5,000 beds with high-tech equipment that will allow for rehabilitation, and this is neurorehabilitation. At the same time, we are talking about the rehabilitation of mental health and other types, which should also be,» – the head of the Ministry of Health explained. – «We must implement emerging technologies. This is a robotic prosthesis, and today two robotic prostheses have appeared in Lviv. It is also a 3D print, reconstructive surgery. It is these technologies that need to be embedded in the design and work in parallel with the world’s leading clinics so that our doctors can learn from the experience.»

According to Oleh Samchuk, director general of the First Medical Association in Lviv, the new rehabilitation center plans to open departments of reconstructive surgery, orthopedics, psychological, psychosocial and physical rehabilitation, as well as burn injuries, 3D printing of bone implants and a prosthesis workshop.

With regard to surgery, a separate area provides for reconstructive surgery and prosthetic surgery. The Center will not only install prostheses for Ukrainians affected by the war, but will also manufacture them here.

In particular, surgery will include reconstructive, plastic, replantation and regenerative care. It will be possible to transplant the face and limbs, prepare the stump and cult recipient, exoprosthetics.

The rehabilitation center will install bone bioimplants and exoskeletons, perform reconstructive operations on the limbs and hand microsurgery, endoprosthetics.

It’s unknown at this time when the National Rehabilitation Center will be built and when it will open. Work on the assistance is already underway. In particular, according to Oleg Samchuk, the hospital for prosthetic patients has already bought two limbs for 6 thousand dollars. They are also preparing five patients for bionic prosthetics together with the Americans and are completing preparations for the first operation in Ukraine to close massive soft tissue and bone defects with free full-layer valves.
