In Bucha, Russians committed more than 9 thousand war crimes, – Ukraine’s Prosecutor General

The official assured that the law enforcement officers won’t stop until all the war crimes’ organizers and perpetrators receive sentences.

During the occupation of the Bucha district near Kyiv, the Russian military committed more than 9,000 war crimes, Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin announced.

«A year ago, the Defense Forces of Ukraine liberated Bucha. After that, for the first time, we all saw evidence of the unprecedented scale of the enemy’s atrocities. During the 33 days of occupation, more than 9,000 war crimes were committed in the Bucha district. These are horrifying numbers...More than 270 crimes every day. More than 1,400 civilians were killed. Many of them were tortured. The dead included 37 children. Another 52 children were injured,» – he said.

According to Kostin, over the course of a year, the prosecutor’s office reported the suspicion of almost a hundred soldiers of the Russian Federation. Indictments regarding 35 have been sent to the court.

Among them is a colonel-general, commander of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation, who directly managed the occupation of the Sumy, Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. Two servicemen of the Russian Federation were sentenced to 12 years in prison for illegal deprivation of liberty of civilians and looting.

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General assured that the law enforcement officers will not stop until all the organizers and perpetrators of war crimes receive sentences.

We will remind you that the Ukrainian Armed Forces liberated Bucha from the Russian occupiers on March 31. The city was under occupation for 33 days. The Russians caused more than 1,400 deaths, including 37 children. More than 175 people were found in mass graves and torture chambers. 9,000 Russian war crimes have been recorded.
