In peacetime, the Lviv Theater «People and Puppets», which has existed for over 30 years, staged plays for children and adults, but now, during the war, theatre weaves masking nets. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, volunteers are woving nets in the theatre. Each of them has its own name, related to folklore characters or plants – it’s «Forest Song», «Ruta-mint», «Melissa», «Goat-Dereza» and even «Burachanka».

Lyudmyla Zborovska, an actress from the People and Dolls Theater, gave an interview for the project of video stories «On the First Line», launched by the media hub «Tvoe Misto». She told that the volunteer group at the theatre consists of nine actors who remained here in the rear. The director and some other actors, as well as the actress’ husband, joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Territorial Defense.

«At first I went to weave nets to my acquaintances volunteers, and then we asked for frames, installed them in the theatre and started weaving here,» says Lyudmila Zborovska.

According to her, initially, they were weaving the nets slowly, but later the volunteers mastered the skills and developed their own method of weaving.

The actors do not have enough fabrics to weave masking nets, so they had to go through all their wardrobes. The actress says that among them, apparently, no one has left things of green, olive or brown in their homes. Even her favourite clothes went into action.

Those actors who do not weave nets are involved in volunteering: some bring cloth, some cut, others transport refugees from the station to the centres of the settlement.

Lyudmyla Zborovska says: «If everyone invests in victory, does not stand aside, invests most of their time in victory, then, of course, we will win. I am sure».

You can help the theatre by bringing cloth or green things on Fredra, 6 street. Also, anyone can join in weaving nets at the same address.

Lviv has nearly 30 locations where you can weave nets for our military. Now, there is a great need for materials – fabrics and mesh base. In particular, volunteers asked to bring scissors, unstiff fabrics of green, black, beige, brown, grey colours, preferably fabric from sheets. They also need sharpeners for scissors, garbage bags, nets (football, volleyball, fishing).

We will add that the media hub «Tvoe Misto» has launched a project of video stories «On the First Line» about those who help Ukrainians during the war – on the front line or in the rear. This is a series of short videos about war heroes, about their systematic work in defense of the country and hometown. The video will be published in two languages: Ukrainian and English.
