Netflix will soon start streaming the documentary «Home Games» by Ukrainian director Alisa Kovalenko, which was first premiered in Ukrainian cinemas in 2018. The director and screenwriter of the film announced this on Facebook, naming it the first case in a Ukrainian creative documentary.
«We’re on Netflix now! Happy news for Christmas and the new year! A first time for an Ukrainian creative documentary!» she wrote.
We will note that before that, in 2015, Netflix started streaming the documentary about the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine «Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom», which was the co-production of Ukraine, the United States and the United Kingdom.
The film «Home Games», shot in 2017, is a joint production of Ukraine, Great Britain, and France. Alisa Kovalenko became the director and screenwriter of the film. The plot is the story of Alina, a 20-year-old «million-dollar baby» from Kyiv, who has a chance to escape from the slum thanks to football. Alina grew up in a poor neighbourhood of the Ukrainian capital. When her parents were in prison, she played football with the boys in the yard.
The budget of the tape amounted to UAH 1.6 million. In March 2017, a short version of the film was presented at the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival. The premiere of the full meter took place in Ukrainian cinemas in June 2018.
