4.8 million jobs have been lost in Ukraine since the full-scale Russian invasion. This is stated in the report of the International Labor Organization, hromadske reports.

According to the report, if the hostilities escalate further, the number of lost jobs will increase to seven million.

Since the war’s beginning, more than 5.23 million Ukrainians have left for neighbouring countries. Of the total number of refugees, 2.75 million are of working age, of whom 43.5% (1.2 million) have previously worked but lost or quit their jobs due to the war.

It is noted that the war in Ukraine could affect the labour market in neighbouring countries, including Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. If the fighting continues, Ukrainian refugees will stay abroad, which will put additional pressure on social protection systems and increase unemployment.

At the same time, The World Bank will allocate $200 million each month to Ukraine. The money will be used to pay salaries for civil servants and teachers, Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Roman Yermolychev, said in an interview for Ukrinform.

According to him, the Ministry of Finance is looking for alternative sources of funding for the country’s needs.

«The Ministry of Finance is constantly looking for alternative sources of financing the needs of the state, including support of education. Therefore, together with other authorities, we are already preparing a joint project with the World Bank «Support of public expenditures to ensure sustainable public administration in Ukraine.» The amount of announced aid will be $ 1.5 billion,» – the official said.

The project provides for the reimbursement of state budget expenditures incurred to pay employees of state bodies, as well as salaries to teachers of general secondary education.

We will add that the director of the department of economic policy of Lviv Regional Military Administration, Stepan Kuybida, informed Lviv Now about the increase in the number of unemployed in the Lviv region. The regional employment centre says the imbalance between labour supply and demand has deepened during the war. If three people applied for one vacancy at the beginning of March, at the end of the month there were five candidates for one place.
