Russian hackers hacked the email newsletter system of the Kyiv Independent publication and sent subscribers disinformation. About this reported Kyiv Independent editor-in-chief Olha Rudenko in a letter to readers and media adviser of the Razom for Ukraine foundation Ostap Yarysh.

The simplified anonymous mailing was sent to the publication's subscribers in Russian. The texts of the letters claimed that the president of Ukraine and the head of the Kremlin had agreed on joint actions, after which a nuclear warhead was allegedly launched at the Ukrainian capital.

The fake letter was first made public by journalist Ostap Yarysh. He posted a screenshot of the received message on social network X and noted that the publication's email system had been subjected to external interference.

"It seems the Kyiv Independent has been hacked by Russians. Subscribers of their mailing have just received a letter in Russian with the message: "Zelensky launched a nuclear warhead on Kyiv", wrote Ostap Yarysh.

The publication's team is taking measures to restore the security of corporate systems and neutralize the consequences of the cyberattack.
