For over a century, the funicular has transformed into a unique architectural and technical landmark that provides reliable connection between the historic Podil and the Upper City every day. Despite its significant age, the facility continues to operate stably thanks to the daily work of technical specialists and regular modernization of the equipment. This is reported by ME "Kyivpastrans".
Acting Director General of the enterprise Tetiana Tarasko noted that today the facility combines the city's history with an important transport function, and its operation is ensured by 35 specialists.
The system operates on the principle of cable traction on a track 222 meters long, overcoming an elevation difference of over 75 meters. Control of the process is carried out from a special console at the upper station, where the main mechanisms — motors and the drive sheave — are located.
To maintain the infrastructure in proper condition, scheduled repairs are carried out on the funicular annually, covering maintenance of the cars, tracks, and technical premises.

In addition to technical care, great attention is paid to the cleanliness and safety of passengers, in particular:
- funicular cars are washed twice a day;
- station lobbies are cleaned daily;
- specialists regularly check the traction system and update warning markings.
Over the last three years, the popularity of this mode of transport has remained steadily high — about 2 million passengers use it every year.
Opened in 1905, the Kyiv funicular is officially recognized as a monument of science and technology of local significance, making it not only a convenient way to ascend Volodymyr Hill but also a must-visit spot on the capital's tourist map.
