A tourist bicycle path "Rozhirche – Yosypovychi" is being created in the Stryi community. The new route will be 35 kilometers long and will run through the picturesque valley of the Stryi River. The project was officially presented at a meeting of the expert commission for the development of active tourism routes in the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
The commission made a key decision - to include this section in the regional tourist bicycle route No. 500.
"Bicycle route No. 500 is the basis for the future network of bicycle paths in Lviv region. Local routes from communities are gradually being added to it, which allows for the formation of a unified system of bicycle tours throughout the region. The inclusion of the Rozhirche – Yosypovychi section is a logical step in this direction and opens up additional opportunities for the development of active tourism," emphasizes Anatoliy Yaremchyshyn, a member of the expert commission.
The new tourist route was presented to the commission members by Orysia Melnyk, head of the tourism and promotion department of the Stryi City Council, and Mykola Zakusov, director of the Stryi Local Lore Museum "Verkhovyna".
The starting point of the route is the village of Rozhirche, a well-known tourist magnet of the region. It is famous for the protected tract of the same name and the complex natural monument "Outcrop of Vygorivsky Sandstone". In addition to natural riches, there is a unique archaeological complex, a famous rock monastery, and the remains of an ancient castle. The bicycle path will further pass through the villages of Semyhyniv, Zhulyn, Bratkivtsi, Verchany, Pidhirtsi, Dashava, and Yosypovychi.
"Thanks to the new section, tourist route No. 500 will cover more significant locations of the Stryi region and become even more attractive to travelers. The development of such routes contributes to the popularization of the region, supports local communities, and creates new opportunities for tourism development. Therefore, we call on representatives of communities to participate more actively in the creation of tourist routes in their territories," notes Maryana Kuksa, deputy director of the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
It is expected that the appearance of a marked bicycle route will help attract more travelers to the Stryi region, reveal little-known locations for them, and give a boost to the popularization of the region.
In addition, during the meeting, experts also discussed pilgrimage tourism. Oresta Bordun, an associate professor at the Department of Tourism of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, spoke about the current state of the famous Camino de Santiago on the Lviv – Shehyni section.
This route was developed and marked in 2015, and it currently needs an update of navigation and markings. We remind you that at one time, a special passport was created for pilgrims, and the route itself received its own coat of arms.
