European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius called the resignation of Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov an unexpected development and emphasized that changes in the government should not affect the implementation of joint defense projects with the European Union. He said this in an interview with "European Pravda."

According to Kubilius, he learned about the then possible resignation of Fedorov on his way from Warsaw to Chełm.

"Yes, and it was a big surprise," the European Commissioner said.

Kubilius stressed that it is important for the European Union to maintain continuity of cooperation with Ukraine in the field of defense. According to him, together with Mykhailo Fedorov and his team, effective work has already been established regarding the use of European funding.

"We have worked and continue to work very closely with Mykhailo Fedorov. Much has been achieved during this period. Including almost daily drone strikes on Moscow, St. Petersburg, Omsk, Crimea, etc.," he noted.

The European Commissioner reported that the first list of armaments and the schedule for using European funds for drone production in Ukraine have already been approved, and the first funding has already arrived.

According to Kubilius, Ukraine is also expected to receive another tranche of European aid this week, which could be used to purchase missiles, fighter jets, and other important armaments.

He separately mentioned future projects, including the development of the "Freya" anti-ballistic system and the production of Ukrainian ballistic missiles.

In the context of Fedorov's resignation, Kubilius also noted that the EU will raise the question of why such a person is being replaced.

"It is very important that all these plans are preserved," the European Commissioner concluded.

It should be noted that on July 15, Mykhailo Fedorov officially confirmed that he was leaving his post as head of the defense department and publicly reported on the results of his work. This decision caused an immediate reaction in society.

On the morning of July 16, in Lviv, Kyiv, Odesa, Ivano-Frankivsk, and other cities of Ukraine, rallies were held in support of Fedorov.
