The Obolonskyi District Court of Kyiv found guilty the former commander of the Kyiv regiment of the "Berkut" special police unit, three former law enforcement officers, and two coordinators of the so-called "titushky" in the case of violent opposition to protests during the Revolution of Dignity. This was reported reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Details of the court decision and case materials

Based on the public prosecution by the prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the court sentenced the former commander of Kyiv's "Berkut" to 10 years of imprisonment. Two of his subordinates and the head of the anti-drug department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Kyiv were sentenced to 8 years in prison, and two "titushky" coordinators – to 7 years. In addition, the former law enforcement officers were deprived of their special ranks and the right to hold positions in law enforcement agencies.

Prosecutors proved that in January 2014, the convicted individuals participated in the violent opposition to protests, the illegal detention of 22 participants of the Revolution of Dignity and other citizens, used violence against them, and falsified materials for their subsequent criminal prosecution.

The court established that on January 23, 2014, in the areas of Hrushevskoho Street and the then Shchors Street, police officers acted together with "titushky." During illegal detentions, they used physical force and special means, inflicted bodily harm on the victims, and damaged their property. Subsequently, based on falsified reports and knowingly false victim testimonies, they were groundlessly brought to criminal responsibility for allegedly participating in mass riots.

The verdict was rendered on July 13, 2026, in absentia. Pre-trial investigation in the case was carried out by investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR).

Previous verdict against the former head of Kyiv's "Berkut"

This is the second guilty verdict against the former commander of Kyiv's "Berkut" for crimes committed during the events of the Revolution of Dignity.

Earlier, in December 2025, the Podilskyi District Court of Kyiv also found him guilty of the illegal detention and use of violence against protesters, which occurred on January 20, 2014, on Lavrska Street.
