Kyiv has begun the phased de-conservation of monuments and is removing protective structures that have protected cultural heritage sites since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This is reported reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

Reasons for dismantling and progress of works

As explained by the Kyiv City State Administration, over four years of war, the nature of threats has changed, and the structures that previously saved monuments from damage are no longer capable of effectively protecting them from modern means of destruction.

Furthermore, the prolonged presence of monuments under shelters is damaging to their materials, as moisture accumulates inside and mold appears, leading to gradual destruction. The dismantling of protective structures will allow for constant monitoring of the technical condition of cultural heritage sites, as well as timely prevention and restoration.

Currently, communal services of the Pecherskyi district, together with the service company INWHITE, are working near the monument to Lesya Ukrainka.

De-conservation of other monuments in the capital

Earlier, the monument to Princess Olga was de-conserved in the capital, and the monument to Mykola Lysenko was cleaned.

After the completion of works near the monument to Lesya Ukrainka, protective structures will also be assembled around the monument to the founders of Kyiv, located in Navodnytskyi Park.
