Ukrainian Grandmaster Vasyl Ivanchuk will be inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame in the USA. This was reported reported by Lviv University, citing the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
The ceremony will take place in October 2026 in St. Louis, Missouri, where the World Chess Hall of Fame museum is located.
This year, Grandmasters Boris Gelfand of Israel, Ulf Andersson of Sweden, Nana Ioseliani of Georgia, and Alexandra Kosteniuk of Switzerland will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame. After this, the total number of Hall of Fame members will be 61.
57-year-old Vasyl Ivanchuk is one of the most decorated Ukrainian chess players. He has won the Chess Olympiad four times - twice as part of the USSR team and twice as part of the Ukrainian team.

In 2007, Ivanchuk became the blitz chess world champion, and in 2016, the world rapid chess champion. He is also the European champion of 2004 and a finalist of the FIDE World Championship in 2002.
Vasyl Ivanchuk is also a graduate of Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture.
Previously, other chess players of Ukrainian origin were inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame - Ruslan Ponomariov, Lyudmila Rudenko, Yefim Geller, and David Bronstein.
Recall that on August 23, on the central alley of Svobody Avenue in Lviv, will take place an open chess tournament "Independence Move" dedicated to Ukraine's Independence Day.
