Military special forces of the Security Service of Ukraine "Alpha" hit a Russian strategic bomber Tu-95MS. This was reported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The president did not provide details on the place and circumstances of the strike.

Earlier, the Telegram channel Supernova+ published a video allegedly showing the consequences of an attack on the Russian "Engels" airfield. According to the channel, the footage might have shown a Tu-95 catching fire.

The Tu-95MS is a strategic turboprop bomber-missile carrier that Russia uses as a carrier of cruise missiles, including the Kh-101. These aircraft are involved in missile strikes on Ukraine.

In July 2026, the SBU reported the destruction of a Russian Tu-95 at the "Engels" airfield. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated at the time that the aircraft was used for Russian missile strikes on Ukraine. According to the SBU, the aircraft sustained critical damage.

Russian aviation also suffered significant losses during Operation "Web" in June 2025. At that time, the SBU attacked Russian military airfields "Olenya", "Belaya", "Dyagilevo", and "Ivanovo" with drones.

According to a hromadske source in the SBU, 41 Russian aircraft were hit during the operation. According to the source's estimate, this constituted 34% of the strategic cruise missile carriers at their home airfields.
