Ukraine’s capital is in the final stage of creating the Kyiv Recovery Strategy. It will soon be presented to the community for discussion, Deputy Mayor and Secretary of the Kyiv City Council, Volodymyr Bondarenko, announced at the «METREX 2023» Spring Conference, which takes place from April 23 to 26 in Wroclaw (Poland).
Kyiv is the centre of the agglomeration of a number of cities that suffered significant destruction of both residential and engineering infrastructure during active hostilities last spring.
«If we are building Kyiv as a modern large city, the centre of an agglomeration, we should already be thinking about the post-war plan. So far, together with the experts, we have completed the creation of the Kyiv Recovery Strategy, which will soon be presented to the community for discussion. This is a complex document that will regulate the post-war movement of the capital. The economic growth program will enable transformational changes. One of the priorities is the return of residents, as well as the transformation of Kyiv into a kind of magnet, provided that key processes are transparent,» – Volodymyr Bondarenko emphasized.
He added that Ukrainian cities have the right to determine the directions of recovery themselves, as they are already demonstrating greater preparedness. In particular, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klychko, has already attracted a number of international partners who are ready to support Ukraine in the future.
«For the period before the end of the war, we have a clear understanding of the priority projects, the implementation of which is possible both within the framework of the Brussels platform and outside it. In particular, individual projects are already co-financed by the City Hall of Paris. This planning gives us hope that the reconstruction of Kyiv after the war will take place at a fairly fast pace. This makes it possible to look to the future with optimism, to be strong among the strong. With joint efforts, we will overcome all challenges and defeat the new evil of the 21st century,» – Volodymyr Bondarenko said.
We will remind you that PwC, together with the Ukrainian capital authorities, are working on the strategy for revitalizing the economy of Kyiv with the funds of the British Government. The Framework strategy for the restoration of the capital foresaw the emphasis on the following three sectors of the economy: IT and the latest technologies, creative industries and high-tech pharmaceutical production. The idea of creating a strategy for the recovery of Kyiv’s economy originated in the British Government. For its implementation, there is a designed three-phase plan: from 1 to 2 years, 3−5 years and up to 10 years.
