The Russian occupiers began shelling Mariupol and its suburbs, violating agreements on a «green corridor» to evacuate women and children and provide humanitarian aid to the city. This was reported by the Mariupol City Council.
«Due to the fact that the Russian side does not adhere to the regime of silence and continues to shell both Mariupol and its environs, the evacuation of the population is postponed for security reasons. We ask all Mariupol residents to disperse and go to places of refuge. More information about the evacuation will be posted soon. Negotiations are underway with the Russian Federation to establish a regime of silence and ensure a secure humanitarian corridor,» – the statement said.
Earlier, the Mayor of Mariupol Vadym Boychenko asked to provide a «green» corridor for the evacuation of the population and humanitarian aid due to the enemy’s constant shelling of the city. According to him, Mariupol is left without heat, water and electricity, three hundred people are injured in hospitals, but medical institutions are also under fire.
«We are shouting at all levels: The Armed Forces of Ukraine need help. Our heroic soldiers, the «Azov» Regiment, the National Guard, the Marines, and the police are all fighting for the borders of our homeland. Mariupol Outpost is under the Ukrainian flag today. But we need military assistance, a corridor and silence so that civilians can be evacuated. I ask, I beg for support of the city of Mariupol,» – Vadym Boychenko declared.
The mayor noted that for several days, the city has been destroyed by «Grad» missiles, howitzers, aircraft. We do not have to talk about stabilization yet. The City Hall is preparing an evacuation, but while there is no silence, it is difficult to do.
It will be recalled that in today’s address, President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Ukrainians who can defend their cities not to give up. In particular, he called on the civilian residents of Mariupol and Volnovakha to help defend their cities.
