Today, April 2, the flag of Ukraine was hoisted at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, the press service of the object reports.
«Today, on April 02, 2022, at 11.00 am, the national flag of Ukraine was raised at Chornobyl NPP industrial site, and the national anthem of Ukraine sounded. The operating personnel of the nuclear power plant, who ensured nuclear and radiation safety of SSE Chornobyl NPP facilities during hard times of occupation and who continue to ensure it now, took part in the ceremony of the flag raising,» – the statement said.
It will be recalled that on February 24, Russian troops seized the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. On March 31, the Russian occupiers left the Chornobyl site and looted it. The Russian occupiers signed an act of intent to leave the Chornobyl site in the form of a document «an act of acceptance and transfer of protection of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant», which stated that «no claims from the administration of the protected object to the National Guard.»
According to the Ukrainian energy company NNEGC «Energoatom», the occupiers dug trenches directly in the Red Forest, the most polluted place in the exclusion zone. As a result, they were exposed to strong radiation and decided to leave the zone, though the IAEA cannot now approve this information.
