An intermodal hub is planned to be created in Sknyliv, which will connect the Ukrainian transport system with the European TEN-T network. Here, cargo will be transshipped between road and rail transport and sent towards Europe. This was told to "Tvoe Misto" by Oleh Yakovanko, Director of the Strategy and Transformation Department of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia".

Oleh Yakovanko noted that an intermodal hub is a state-of-the-art transport and logistics node that will physically connect the Ukrainian transport system with the European TEN-T network. This is the EU's main infrastructure concept, which unites all modes of transport – rail, road, air, and sea – into a single integrated network across the entire European continent.

"Considering the construction of the European gauge railway to Sknyliv and Ukraine's integration into the European TEN-T network, this railway hub becomes strategically important for all of Eastern Europe", emphasizes Oleh Yakovanko. – Cargo will be processed in Sknyliv, transshipped from road transport to rail transport and vice versa. For this, it is necessary to reconstruct the Sknyliv station itself, build additional 1435 mm tracks, expand areas for unloading and storing containers, and build customs warehouses. The project is currently in the planning stage. At the same time, we are looking for partners, and are even considering the possibility of concessions."

Exact deadlines for the creation of the intermodal hub have not yet been announced.

According to Yakovanko, Ukrzaliznytsia already uses the "Lisky" branch in Sknyliv for accumulating cargo and dispatching intermodal trains carrying containerized cargo to the Polish ports of Gdansk and Gdynia.

The intermodal hub will relieve the Main Railway Station and the center of Lviv from transit passengers and trucks, and will allow for the transshipment of products from enterprises towards Europe and vice versa on the outskirts of the city. This is especially important because industrial parks are being built near Sknyliv.

Recall that trains from Warsaw, Krakow, and Vienna will be able to arrive directly at the platforms of the Lviv Main Railway Station, and later to Bryukhovychi. More on this is at the link.
