One of the largest road projects of recent years has been completed in Ukraine - the Northern Bypass of Rivne, the construction of which began back in 2019. The road is of strategic importance for logistics and international connections. This was reported by the Vice Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine, Minister of Communities and Territories Development, Oleksiy Kuleba.
According to him, the Northern Bypass of Rivne has a length of 14.5 km. The new road will improve connectivity between regions of Ukraine, as well as provide quicker access to the international transport corridor M-06 "Kyiv - Chop" and the border crossing points "Yahodyn", "Ustyluh", and "Unhryn" on the Ukrainian-Polish border.
"The Northern Bypass strengthens routes to the western border, improves the transportation of humanitarian and military cargo, and increases the resilience of the country's transport system", Kuleba noted.
According to the minister, for Rivne, the new road means relieving the city from transit transport, for the region – new development opportunities, and for the state – strengthening logistics and international transport corridors.
The project started back in 2019, however, after the full-scale invasion began, the work was temporarily suspended. At the same time, unfinished bridge structures began to collapse, which could have led to significant losses, so it was decided to complete the construction. Its total cost is almost UAH 2 billion.
As part of the project, 6 km of new road were built, 4 km of existing highway were reconstructed, and another 4.5 km of the road network and artificial structures were repaired.
Currently, traffic on the road is fully open. It runs through the Rivne district and connects the Sarny direction with the Lutsk direction. Separate works on landscaping the adjacent territory are yet to be completed at the site.
