Trains from Warsaw, Krakow, and Vienna will be able to arrive directly at the platforms of Lviv Main Railway Station, and later to Bryukhovychi. This was told to "Your City" by Oleg Yakovenko, Director of the Strategy and Transformation Department of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia".

"After the launch of the European gauge track, the travel time will be almost halved, and trains from Warsaw, Krakow, and Vienna will be able to arrive directly at the platforms of Lviv main station, and later to the platforms of Bryukhovychi".

This involves the construction of a 1435 mm standard European gauge track from the Polish border through the "Mostyska-2" station to Sknyliv. The first stage, nearly 80 kilometers long, is planned to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

Currently, two railway systems meet at Mostyska station – the Ukrainian broad gauge and the European 1435 mm gauge. Due to the different track widths, trains have to change wheelsets, which can take several hours.

The EU has already allocated a grant of 76 million euros for the construction of the section from Mostyska to Sknyliv. The total cost of the project is about 190 million euros. The project has already passed state expertise.

Oleg Yakovenko also spoke about the construction of another European gauge track, which will connect Lviv, Rava-Ruska, and Bryukhovychi.

"This is a parallel strategic project to create direct railway connections between Lviv and Warsaw. If the Sknyliv hub is oriented towards the southwest direction – Krakow, Prague, Vienna, then the railway branch through Rava-Ruska is a direct route to Lublin and the Polish capital".

We remind you that the first European gauge track in Ukraine was opened between Chop and Uzhhorod. Its length is 22 kilometers. In the future, the European gauge track is planned to be expanded further.
