Ukraine is not considering renaming a unit that received the honorary title "named after the Heroes of the UPA," despite the reaction from the Polish side. This is what LIGA.net was reported by a source close to the head of the Office of the President, Kyrylo Budanov.

Earlier, the Polish publication Wirtualna Polska wrote that during a visit to Poland, a compromise name for the unit was allegedly discussed – in honor of UPA members who fought against the USSR. The final decision in such matters is to be made by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

At the same time, Budanov's team denied this information.

During the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Poland, meetings were held with the Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the head of the Presidential Office of International Policy Marcin Przydacz, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcin Bosacki. The delegation included the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Serhiy Kyslytsya and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk.

According to interlocutors, the visit was initiated by the Ukrainian side, and the key topic of negotiations was precisely the situation surrounding the awarding of the honorary name "Heroes of the UPA" to one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At the same time, the visit was accompanied by a tense reaction in Poland. The country's Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the decision regarding the UPA, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, according to the media, did not hold a meeting with the Ukrainian delegation.

According to him, the issue of stripping Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle is planned to be submitted to a meeting of the Order's Chapter on June 8.

He cited the decision of the Ukrainian side to award the honorary name "Heroes of the UPA" to one of the units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as the reason for this initiative.

Before that, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the Separate Center for Special Operations "North" of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the honorary name "Heroes of the UPA."

The text of the decree states that the decision was made "in order to restore the historical traditions of the national army" and taking into account "exemplary performance of assigned tasks during the defense of the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine."
