The Security Service of Ukraine detained two Russian agents who were preparing a terrorist act against an AFU serviceman near the pedestrian area of Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv. This was reported reported by the SBU.

Detention and charges

Both detained women were notified of suspicion under articles concerning state treason, aiding in the commission of a terrorist act, preparation of a terrorist act, as well as illegal acquisition and manufacturing of an explosive device. They are currently in custody without the right to bail. The suspects face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Law enforcement officers detained one of the suspects while she was trying to retrieve explosives from a cache, and the other at her place of residence. During searches, almost 6 kilograms of explosive substances were seized from her.

According to the investigation, one of the female figures was supposed to place a homemade explosive device under the military man's car, which they planned to detonate remotely. The plan of the Russian special services was uncovered thanks to law enforcement officers discovering a GPS tracker installed on the car in advance.

What is known about the detained agents

According to the SBU, both women were recruited through acquaintances who cooperate with Russian special services.

One of the detainees is an unemployed resident of the Sumy region. Following instructions from her curator in the Russian Federation, she came to Kyiv, checked into a hotel, and manufactured a homemade explosive device based on video instructions. After that, the woman hid it in one of the capital's cemeteries, and for camouflage, she disguised herself as an elderly woman by putting on a headscarf and taking flowers.

The other agent is the former owner of a confectionery store in Sevastopol. According to the investigation, after facing financial problems, the Russian special services offered her to pay off her debts in exchange for cooperation. She arrived in Kyiv, surveilled the Ukrainian military man, studied his routes, and was supposed to fix the explosives under his car. During searches, a wig was seized from her, which she intended to use while carrying out the task.
