On their way to the semi-finals, England won Group L, and in the playoffs, they defeated DR Congo (2:1), Mexico (3:2), and Norway (2:1 in extra time). Argentina became the winner of Group J, after which they eliminated Cabo Verde (3:2 in extra time), Egypt (3:2), and Switzerland (3:1 in extra time).
