The game became faster, and the number of shots and sharp episodes noticeably increased. Despite a goalless first half, the match continued at a more intense pace after the break.
In the 55th minute of the semi-final match, the England national team opened the score. After Morgan Rogers' cross into Argentina's penalty area, Anthony Gordon successfully anticipated the play and sent the ball into the net with one touch – 1:0.
Despite several spectacular saves by Jordan Pickford, the Argentinians eventually equalized. After a corner kick, Enzo Fernandez scored an accurate shot and leveled the score five minutes before the end of regular time.
In the 90th minute, the referee added an additional 9 minutes to the match, after which Lautaro Martinez scored the second goal against England in the 92nd minute.
It should be noted that England took first place in their group, winning two matches. In the playoffs, the team beat DR Congo (2:1), Mexico (3:2), and Norway (2:1).
Argentina will play in the World Cup final for the second time in a row and will have a chance to defend their title. Instead, England will compete for third place for the second time in eight years. In the final, the Argentinians will face the Spanish national team. The decisive match of the tournament will take place on Sunday, July 19, at 22:00 Kyiv time.
