Monobank co-founder Oleh Horokhovskyi announced his intention to gift a new car to an elderly man who was transporting all his belongings, including poultry, in an old car and got stuck in the middle of Kyiv due to a breakdown. Regarding his decision, Oleh Horokhovskyi wrote on his own Telegram channel.
Later, Horokhovskyi reported that he had already found his contact.
The man's story and the tragedy in Chernihiv region
According to law enforcement, he was initially forced to leave his home in eastern Ukraine due to the fighting and moved to the Chernihiv region with his family. However, Russian aggression caught up with him in the new location: the pensioner's wife died as a result of another attack.
Having lost a loved one, the 70-year-old widower decided to move on in search of safety. He packed "his whole life" into one old VAZ car.
The police noted that in the cabin and trunk of the car, the pensioner fit not only household appliances and personal belongings but also 18 chickens and a dog.
However, the vehicle could not withstand the long journey and the significant load. The car broke down right in the middle of the capital, leaving the confused man on the road. A concerned passerby noticed him and called the patrol officers for help.
A patrol police crew arrived at the scene. Law enforcement officers supported the man morally, calmed him down, and organized the transportation of the faulty vehicle. With joint efforts, the old VAZ was towed to an auto repair shop so the owner could fix it and continue his journey.
These very shots of the old loaded car and the pensioner's story of resilience moved social media users and caught the attention of Oleh Horokhovskyi.
