On Friday, April 17, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is on a working visit to Lviv, where he met with King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. This was reported by "Tvoe Misto" from the scene.

During the conversation with the press, Zelenskyy emphasized that Sweden is among the top five donors of support for Ukraine, particularly the Armed Forces.

"For 2026 alone, Sweden has focused support at four billion. This is very significant support for us, for our defense, for the resilience of the AFU. We are grateful to the whole team for this, and certainly, we are very grateful to the people of Sweden," — the president said.

He also thanked Queen Silvia for supporting humanitarian initiatives, particularly the "Bring Kids Back" program for returning Ukrainian children, as well as the "School Meals" project.

Separately, Zelenskyy noted a new program to strengthen the defense of Ukraine's skies, which involves the development of a modern air fleet, including the use of Swedish Gripen fighter jets.

The president added that he plans to discuss the start of training for Ukrainian pilots with the King of Sweden — it is expected that it could start as early as this year.

For his part, Carl XVI Gustaf noted that he looks forward to meeting Ukrainians and is eager to hear their stories. This is his second visit to Ukraine since independence and the first since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.

The delegations began the visit's program by honoring the memory of fallen Ukrainian servicemen at the Lychakiv Cemetery.
