A petition for the official commemoration of Oleksandr Perha has collected the necessary six thousand signatures on the Kyiv City Council website. The man sacrificed his life on April 18, protecting a boy from a terrorist's shots. This was reported on the portal of the Kyiv City Council.

The story of the courageous Kyiv resident shook the capital after the tragic events in the Holosiivskyi district. Oleksandr Perha found himself in the epicenter of the terrorist attack and, at the moment of mortal danger, made an instant decision — he shielded a child who was in the line of fire with his own body. The hero sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, but the next day his heart stopped in the hospital.

The author of the initiative, Anastasiia Mahonova, notes in the text of the appeal that such an act is the highest example of humanity and self-sacrifice. According to her, Kyiv must not only experience its tragedies but also worthily honor people who, at a critical moment, save others at the cost of their own lives.

Thanks to the active support of city residents, the appeal gathered the required number of votes well before the deadline, which now obligates officials to consider the community's proposals.

Within the petition, several specific steps are proposed to honor the memory of Oleksandr Perha:

  • installation of a memorial sculpture or a commemorative plaque directly at the site of the tragedy;
  • posthumous award of a city distinction to Oleksandr Hryhorovych Perha;
  • official public commemoration of his feat at the city-wide level.

Now, according to the current procedure, the Mayor of Kyiv and the relevant deputy commissions must study these proposals and provide an official response. The community expects the authorities to support the creation of a memorial site that will serve as a reminder of the feat of a man who did not stand aside from someone else's misfortune.
