In the afternoon of July 24, the Russian army carried out a missile strike on a training ground in the Kyiv region, where an arms exhibition was taking place. About the strike and its consequences were reported by a combat veteran and founder of the defense products company First Contact, Valeriy Borovyk, as well as the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Details of the attack and initial official data on casualties
On the air of "Apostrof", Valeriy Borovyk noted that the Russian strike was likely aimed specifically at the exhibition:
"I don't think I can tell everything right now, but it was a very serious strike on one of the training grounds where the arms exhibition was taking place. I think official reports will appear later. Most likely, the strike was aimed specifically at this event., - said Borovyk.
He did not disclose the specific location of the strike or other details of the attack. At the same time, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the shelling and reported on the dead and injured.
"A rescue operation is currently underway in the Kyiv region after a Russian missile strike. As of now, dozens of people are known to be injured. It is also known that, unfortunately, six people died. My condolences to their families and friends. All circumstances and the fate of people are being clarified. All necessary services are working at the scene., - emphasized the President.
Reaction and context of the event
It was reported online that the announcement about the arms exhibition at the training ground was freely available on the internet.
After the strike, the president's advisor on the development of technological directions of defense, Serhii Beskrestnov (Flash), published a comment on social media:
"Friends, thank you, I'm fine. The team is alive., - he expressed.
In turn, former advisor to the Minister of Defense Serhii Sternenko stated that previous tragedies, particularly the one at the Chernihiv Drama Theater in 2023, which was hit by "Iskander" missiles during an exhibition, did not serve as a lesson.
"Not only aerial reconnaissance works well for the Russians. They are able to take satellite images of our territory, they have numerous agents, and they read social media and chats., - added Sternenko.
Earlier, an air alarm sounded in Kyiv, and the mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported calling medics in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
