The Patriarch Lubomyr Husar Ukrainian Catholic Seminary has been founded in London. Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski signed the corresponding decree. The document will come into force on Palm Sunday — March 29, 2026.
As reported by the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family in London, the creation of the seminary is a response to the growth of the Ukrainian community in Great Britain, as well as the need to form future priests directly in the context of diaspora life.
The new institution will become a center for spiritual, theological, and pastoral education. It will train clergy members who will combine fidelity to the traditions of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church with a readiness to serve in a modern multicultural environment.
The seminary was named after Patriarch Lubomyr Husar — one of the most authoritative spiritual leaders of the UGCC, who consistently emphasized the importance of the Church's development worldwide and support for Ukrainians abroad.
It is worth noting that the Ukrainian community in Great Britain has grown significantly since the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. According to various estimates, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians currently live in the country, which creates new demands not only for social support but also for spiritual care.
